My Niece

As most of you guys know, my niece is a gymnast. Now, when I say gymnast, I don't mean gymnast in the basic sense of the word. I mean GYMNAST. She really is a darling girl who works very hard at juggling practice and school.

Anyway, my mother sent me Brit's pictures for this year, and I thought I would share them with you guys. So here they are.

My Grandparents

My grandfather is currently very ill (he has a grade 4 Glioblastoma brain tumor). He doesn't have much time left. So, this past weekend, my entire family got together to celebrate his 89th birthday. It was absolutely wonderful.

While we were there, we started going through a lot of old pictures. Here are some of my favorite.

This 1st picture is the picture of my grandmother that my grandfather carried with him throughout WW2.

This 2nd picture is his service picture. He was a member of the Army.

This is the "wedding" photograph of my grandparents.

This picture is of all the kids in their school (kind of like a school photo). It was taken around 1925. Both of my grandparents are circled in the photograph.

Tagged

Okay, I was tagged by Deborah, and so I am supposed to write 7 random things about myself. Let's see if I can come up with 7 things.

1. When I go grocery shopping, I have to purchase things in multiples of twos.
2. I absolutely love to vacuum. In fact, when I moved to Houston, I purchased one of those see through cyclone machines just so I could get a better idea of how clean my carpet was becoming.
3. I secretly wish I was a Broadway Musical star.
4. I rarely watch the news because of how disheartening it is, but I love to read People magazine. Does People count as news?
5. I talk to myself...A LOT. This comes from spending the better part of my life practicing for many hours at a time. I would comment to myself what was not sounding right, and then I would ask myself what I needed to do to fix it. Now when I talk to myself, it just seems weird because I don't have that funky artist vibe still going.
6. I see two of everything. No, this isn't the weird OCD tendency that I referenced in item #1. I have a muscular eye disorder (strabismus and insufficient convergence), so my eyes don't ever combine what I am looking at.
7. I am horrible at keeping in touch with people...just ask Henny. I intend to keep in touch, but I hate to talk on the phone, and so that makes it a little harder.

The 7 people I tag for this are...
1. Elizabeth (if baby stays in a little longer)
2. Roxanne
3. Nicole (although Nicole doesn't have a blog)
4. Lynley
5. Stacey
6. Valerie
7. Jennifer T.

Can This...

Can this...

really be better than this...

(Whoa-oa-oa-oa-oa, hangin' tough)

Success at Last

The smell of sweet success...actually it smells a bit like cumin. I tried once again to cook this evening, and I actually succeeded. I made Mexican Ground Beef over Polenta. I made it with ground turkey, and it took me a couple of tries to not boil over the polenta, but it is actually edible. Woohoo!!!!! Next week, I think I am going to try to make Tofu Tacos. Check back to see how that goes.

Cheap

Thrifty, economical, frugal, parsimonious, prudent, or cheap. Those are all words that describe me. I love saving money. It's almost like a game. My electric bill is generally around $13 each month, and I love perusing the circulars and clipping coupons. It's because of my spendthrift ways that I have stumbled on a website that I want to let you guys know about. It is www.bethriftylikeus.blogspot.com. It is the best blog ever!!!!!

Now, along these lines, I am now to the point where I wish I no longer had a tattoo (yes, dear mother, fall off the chair when you read that; you are finally right). To make matters worse, it is on my ankle. So, because I don't want to influence the kids in any way, if I wear a skirt to church, I have to put a band-aid over it. I looked into scar make-up and have a couple that kind of work, but it is like an artist session to make them match the shading of my pasty white ankles (who knew pasty involved a number of uber pale colors).

So, I did some investigating. Laser surgery is horribly expensive, and I checked into those tattoo removal creams. No legitimate source of dermatology indicates that those work at all. I thought about asking a tattoo artist if they could tattoo over it with white, and then it would just look like those large white patches that Michael Jackson claims he has. However, because it has color in it, white won't make a difference. However, what about purple? Yes, honest to goodness, that is what flashed through my mind (what about purple). I could get a tattoo person to go over it in and create an odd shape in purple and then just pretend it is a port wine stain. It would only cost like $35. What to do, what to do.

For the moment, my tattoo remains, I have a full supply of band-aids, and I am wearing lots of pants.
