Cartoons

I am a little bit trying to put off getting some work done. So, instead of doing work, I thought I would share my favorite cartoons with you guys. They are all from reverendfun.com.

Taste O'VBS

So, I thought you guys might enjoy a taste of VBS. We had a rehearsal today with some of our costumes and some of our props. It was pretty cool. However, I think I probably need to explain some of the pictures.

This first picture is inside the fish's mouth. The thing on the left that is red is the fish's tongue. Both Jonah and another fish start this night by sliding down the tongue. Also, it is not raining inside the fish. The reason you see some ladies holding umbrellas is because their costumes are based around umbrellas, but they are not finished. I just wanted them to have something to hold for practice.

On this picture, please notice the large parrot that is perched in our baptistry. There is a mast and sail that stretches up above him, but we didn't haul it in for today's rehearsal.

Working on our "moves" with the song "All for One". We are definitely CoC'ers.

Here is the fish. It started out about 3 feet wider and 12 feet longer than you see it here.

8 days and counting until the start of VBS!

You Know You're Too Busy When...

I wish this were one of those "You Know You're a Redneck When...", but alas, this is simply my on compilation of observations. I have hit the busy days of summer, and these are all things that I have done or thought in the past day.

So...here it goes.

You know you're too busy when...

1. ...eating at IHOP sounds like a good idea because it is the only place open at the time you have penciled in for dinner.

2. ...washing your hair doesn't feel like a necessity (eeewww, yuck).

3. ...you go to wal-mart to buy 31 pairs of underwear so that you can minimize the number of loads of laundry you have to do each month.

4. ...Cheeze-Its suffice for lunch.

5. ...you call your mother to come and help you. (This one is actually true. Aren't moms great.)

Home Again, Home Again

Well, we made it home about 7:30pm last night, and we only had a few mishaps. The major one was the 44-ounce (completely full) drink that spilled. It was one of the kid's drink, and it was completely an accident, but it sure was an interesting site to see the root beer come rushing down the floorboard from the back of the bus all the way to the front. Fortunately, I had rolls of paper towels left over from my Bible Class lesson. We pulled into a gas station, and the kids did a great job of helping us clean up.

Other than the drink incident, the ride home was pretty uneventful. The mom that went along with us to be a counselor enjoyed driving, so it was a very nice ride for me. I thought you guys might enjoy seeing my ride home.

These are my feet. They stayed propped up for most of the 9 hours.

This is Sam Houston. He greets us as we go through Huntsville.

As I have said before, I love camp. This was no exception. The kids and I had a great time!

Updating from the Blackberry

What a world we live in. I am at camp for the week without my computer, and I can still update my blog via my Blackberry. Granted, my thumbs are a little tired from squishing onto the tiny keys, but otherwise, how cool is this?

Camp is going well. No major injuries or issues (knock on wood), so that is always good. I did have to explain to someone today, though, that "shut-up, dorkwad" was probably not an appropriate phrase to use at church camp. Gotta love those elementary kids.

Well, I probably need to say by for now. Tomorrow morning is going to come way earlier than I would like.

Here We Go

Hi ho, hi ho, it's off to camp we go.

Well, my friends, we leave for camp this morning. I thought I would get in one last blog before the bus heads out. Please pray that the bus and the adults driving the bus survive 8 hours in a confined space with elementary kids.

Yes, my face is back to normal size. I'm still not sure what caused it, but I am very glad to be able to see.

Everyone have a wonderful week.

Swollen

Okay, so swollen is never a good word, but this morning, swollen was part of my vocabulary. Let me start by saying that I was a bit under the weather yesterday. I wasn't terribly sick, but I really didn't feel well. When I stopped by the office yesterday to pick up my computer so that I could at least try to get some work done while I was home, I mentioned to one of the secretaries that I thought I was having an allergic reaction to something because my face itched horribly.

Well, guess what, I apparently was right. I woke up this morning with VERY swollen eyes. I took some Benadryl, and they are definitely getting better, but it is still not good. Below is a picture of my eyes as they are right now.

**Before you view the picture. Let me just apologize for the scariness of it.

I have VBS practice tonight, so I am hoping that they are even better by that point. Regardless, I will stick on my granny glasses and just go with it. Do you think I could convince people that I was in a fight?

OH. MY. GOODNESS.

Okay, so this post is definitely worthy of an all-caps oh my goodness.

Today, our VBS t-shirts came in. We decided to go with something fun but simple. The wonderful Roxanne came up with the design. She also did our fantastic shirts last year, so I knew that the shirts would be great!

**FYI...This was not Roxanne's mistake. This was all on the production end.

Like, I said, the VBS t-shirts came in today. Because I had only seen a t-shirt proof. I excitedly opened up the box to see them in all their glory.

OH. MY. GOODNESS.

So, the logo wasn't exactly what we had approved. It was somewhat okay, but it wasn't the one that we had approved. Here is a picture of it.

That's not the worst of it. No, the worst part is...well...I am going to let you see for yourself. Check out the picture of the front of the shirt below. Notice anything?

Yep, apparently we are encouraging people to stare at each other's chests because the only way you are going to see what the shirt says is if you get up close and personal with someone's chest.

Again, OH. MY. GOODNESS.

Then, there is the back of the shirt. On the back, we asked them to write Memorial Church of Christ across the back.

Before, I continue, I should probably tell you that this is the same company that does our letterhead. Our letterhead looks very churchish and is appropriate for a letterhead.

Please note that I said FOR A LETTERHEAD. It doesn't so much work for the back of a children's t-shirt. Are you seeing where I am going with this? Yes, that is right. Our envelope logo is now on the back of the VBS t-shirt.

Everyone say it with me, "OH. MY. GOODNESS."

I'm working on getting the problem fixed. I'll show you the new shirts when we get them.

**UPDATE: They are going to fix the problem at no extra cost to us. Woohoo!

Ode to Lisa Kelly

Okay, so this is my ode to my friend Lisa Kelly because she finally posted a comment on my blog.

Oh, L.K. you are so classy,
You are tall and smart and sassy.
You love to cook and sew through fall,
But you've still not smocked me overalls.

Lisa, next time I see you in person, I will sing it to you in my best opera voice.

********

Still no Elijah logo, but here is at least a picture from their first night of VBS last night (you can see the logo in the background on the bigscreens). From what I understand, it was fantastic! Especially, Queen Jezebel. I understand that she was awesome.

Camp Camp Camp

I absolutely LOVE camp. It is not summer to me unless I go to a camp or two. This Saturday, a group of my kids and I will go to camp at OCU. I am VERY excited. Camp just makes it seem like summer.

Other updates from the past couple of weeks...

1. The big fish now makes it down the aisle. They cut 6 feet off the link and about 4 feet off the side (which still makes it about 5 ft wide and 20 feet long), and it final fits. We did a trial run this past Friday. It was very cool. Although, it does have to do a three-point turn to get back out of the auditorium.

2. We had a lock-in for the 3rd-5th grade elementary kids. We had 22 kids! Big group. Lots of fun. Lots of junk food. And, only two minor injuries. Now, if I could only catch up on my sleep.

3. I had to have a new picture taken today for an article that is being submitted. I put it on the sidebar on the left. I absolutely hate having my picture made. So, I felt sorry for the lady having to take the picture. She sure has a lot of patience!

Now on another note, check out the various VBS's from my friends churches...

First I have to say that I couldn't get Saturn Roads picture to save correctly, but they are doing Elijah: On Fire for God. It started tonight. Good luck to them!

Next is Altamesa...

Then Fairmont Park...

Then Richland Hills...Then Sugar Grove...

And even though I only know the daughter and son-in-law of the preacher, I felt that Florissant deserved a shout-out because they too did Jonah.

One Fish, Two Fish

One fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish.

You gotta love Dr. Seuss. I still remember my parents and grandparents reading all the great Dr. Suess classics to me. (I also remember my grandmother reading me this book when I was little. #1-It was definitely a time where political correctness was not the norm, and #2-I was from East Texas.)

All of this being said, I have finally decided that it is time for me to get some sort of life--nothing outrageous, just something where I actually do things with people because I have discovered that IHOP won't let me bring my dogs to $3.99 pancake night. Apparently, my dogs are not real people (someone needs to tell them that).

Anyway, my first thought was to combine my two great loves--reading and free stuff. So, I think I am going to join a book club at the library. I just now have to figure out which one I will attend. My choices are the Junie B. Jones Book Club (which I may be a tad too old for) and the Giant Print Gerontology Book Club (which I may have too many teeth for).

Oh well, I guess I will have to find something else to do to have a life.

Oooh, oooh, oooh, I know. What about this? (just kidding)

Didn't See This One Coming

So, I didn't see this one coming. I have had some pretty embarassing moments in my life. I am fully willing to admit that fact. (If you would like a recount of some of these events, just let me know.)

Anyway, let me set the stage for this latest occurrence. I was sitting in a staff meeting yesterday morning, and our office manager mentioned that something had been stolen from the office Sunday morning. Someone else asked if the security cameras picked anything up.

Well, the moment someone said security camera, my ears perked up. (No, I didn't steal anything.) See, Sunday morning I had on a skirt with a slip that kept getting caught on the lining of the skirt. So, as I am checking the classrooms during first service to make sure they are ready for Bible Class, I stopped a couple of times to lift my skirt up (not all the way) and pull down my slip.

Do you see my problem?

I found out yesterday that there are security cameras in all the hallways.

Now are you understanding?

The church now has me on tape lifting up my skirt and pulling down my slip.

I know, I know, I should have just ducked into the restroom, but there was nobody in the hallways, and I was trying to move quickly.

Really...I didn't see this coming.

Update

Hello, friends. Well, my brain is inundated with VBS/summer stuff, so I don't really have the brain power to come up with a good blog post. So, I decided to take the easy way out and share with you some of my favorite T-shirt slogans.

Lint Brush

Hi, my name is Jennifer, and I lint brush my dogs.

Yes, you read that correctly. I do indeed lint brush my dogs with those sticky lint brushes. I am not certain if that should be considered a problem, but I felt like I should make that admission.

Thank you for your time.
