What to Write???

What to write??? I'm really not sure. I actually have attempted this post a couple of times now, but I just can't seem to come up with something that warrants hitting the "Save Now" button. Maybe as I am typing I will come up with something.

Ooh, I thought of something.

(Be forewarned that this is a Project Runway story.)

There is a person on Project Runway whose name is Suede (I can't imagine that is his real name, but that is what the little moniker reads when he does his "editorial" part.) Anyway, Suede likes to refer to himself a lot in the third person. "Wow, Suede bought some beautiful fabric. Suede just doesn't know why that designer is here. Suede is way better than that other designer."

Lots and lots of third person.

Strangely enough, that is not the point of this tangent. Here is the point (or the reason for me telling you this)...years ago, my dad had some group homes for high functioning special needs adults. Anyway, my dad's name is Dwade (yes, an unusual name, but that is another story). One of the men in the group home could never understand what my dad's name was, so he called my dad Suede. As a result, we still refer to my dad as Suede some of the time.

Now when I watch Project Runway and Suede comes on the screen, I have to giggle because the over-dramatic fashion designer who refers to himself in the third person is definitely not the Suede that I know.

It's Hot!

Wow, it was hot today. I could feel my pasty white skin burning as it made contact with sunlight. On the positive side, even though it was hot here, it was even hotter in Dallas. Apparently it was around 105 there. So, I have to be thankful that we were still at least in double digits.

For those keeping count, today was the first day that I had to turn on my air conditioner. I'm a little surprised I made it this long. I promptly turned it right back off, though.

**********

Well, we have Kids' RoadMaP this weekend. I am very much looking forward to it. However (and this is a big however), my entertainment had to cancel on me. So, I have been scrambling all day to try to find a replacement. I have to say that I was a little shocked/surprised at what pops up when one googles random words like "entertainer." It definitely was NOT church appropriate.

What about the Chick-Fil-E cow? Do you think I could ask him to come out and count as entertainment for upper elementary kids? Just a thought...

**********

Scramble is my new favorite game. It's on Facebook, so I have apparently now become a Facebook junkie. I have determined that my friends are way smarter than I am, though. And Facebook perpetuates that feeling because they send out emails saying, "You are stupid. Tama just easily beat your high score in Scramble. If you have recently increased your vocabulary, you can try to get near her score." Okay, so maybe it isn't quite that harsh, but I can tell it's tone of voice.

GPS

Okay...so I have decided what I am asking for for Christmas...a GPS.

The reason I have decided it might be time for one is because I had a camp meeting with the other Children's Ministry peeps that are all going to camp together.

We were planning on meeting at IHOP on Northwest Hwy. Well, I stopped at not 1, not 2, but 3 IHOPS before I found the correct one.

******

In other news, Season 2 of Project Runway is back in swing. Yes, I do heart Project Runway. However, the one thing that is throwing me off is that Tim seems to be trying to "act" like Tim this year. It's past the point of natural and a little disturing.

******

I saw Mamma Mia the other day. Although I enjoy the stage version more, it really was cute. However, Pierce Brosnan loses all gorgeousness when he starts to sing. There is just something about his mannerisms that scream "not born to be a successful singer."

******

It's almost August. Can you believe that? This summer has just flown by. The realization of that hit me today. We are almost officially back into the school year, and I will have made it through a busy summer with only one major frustration meltdown (that's pretty good considering I don't handle stress well).

******

Have a wonderful end of July!

Procrastination

I'm generally pretty good about not procrastinating. Don't get me wrong, there are definite moments when I try to put things off, but most often that is not the case.

Well, this evening I am in a porcrastinating mood. The reason I know this is because...
  1. I suddenly find that I have a blog post that "must" be written.
  2. I'm looking around my living room thinking that I should probably vacuum it (I just did that yesterday).
  3. I have checked all the usual blogs that I read twice or thrice in the last 20 minutes.
  4. A TBS showing of "10 Things I Hate About You" suddenly seems like must-see TV.

Nevertheless, I don't really have time to procrastinate right now because I am simply covered completely, totally, and more than imaginably in work (which is not unusual during the summer). I'm certain it will be another late night of work, and I'd rather not make it any later. So, I had better find the motivation to redirect my computer screen to Microsoft Word, prioritize my to do list, and get some work done.

I wonder...are there any new "The Office" webisodes ready to be viewed...hmmm.

New Vacuum Cleaner & Chewed-Up Ear Phones

Okay, so it is about 12:10am, and I really had planned on being in bed by now, but I just seem to have so much work to catch up that I am still up working.

I was able to mark a few things off my list. The biggest was the VBS DVD. It is now finished, and I just have to have my person burn it. I even did a second disc which was a lovely slideshow with dutifully inspirational music. All in all, I am fairly pleased with it.

Next thing I was able to mark off my list is getting a new vacuum cleaner. No, I didn't get my dream cleaner. It wasn't in the budget. Instead, I had to settle for a inexpensive Dirt Devil. As most of you know, I LOVE LOVE LOVE to vacuum (yes, it is a disease). So, as I was vacuuming with my new sweeper this evening, I apparently ran over a pair of earphones. If I was previously uncertain about the suction power of this cheap sweeper, I am no longer. It sucked up those ear phones and shredded them pretty well. So much so that I had to vacuum up the pieces of the earphones with the vacuum cleaner.

All I still need to do is get my shirt count figured out and submitted for RoadMaP, send an email to my teachers, and finish drying a load of laundry. Then, it will be off to bed for me.

Vacation

Okay, so I realize that it is just the middle of July, but I am already planning for my vacation near the end of August. While I would love to go to the Great Barrier Reef, Prince Edward Island, or even settle for Seattle, I think I am going to be a bit more daring. I am going to an exotic locale called Dallas.

Yep, you read that correctly. My big vacation plans are to go to Dallas.

I at least have it all mapped out, though. I am going to visit a different friend each day. A couple of them have pools, so it will be like laying out at the beach. Another one has an incredible feather bed, so that will be like a day at a fancy hotel. Then, I have to make sure I am there on a Tuesday night, so that I can hang out with my posse and peruse Firewheel.

I am very excited about this vacation. I'm thinking of making myself a vacation t-shirt because everything is better with iron-on letters.

In other news, I have made it Pajama Day here at my house. I can proudly say that it is currently 2:13pm central time, and I am still in my pajamas.

Funniest Thing EVER

Okay, so this may not be the funniest thing ever, but it was something that I discovered the other day that I am still giggling about.

I have an obnoxious whistling ability. I think it comes from the many years of training as a classical musician.

Anyway, the other night at VBS (Night 4, I think), I was waiting for the remaining cast members to get there. While some of us were sitting there up on the stage waiting, somehow, I discovered that dear, sweet Cindy too posessed an uncanny whistling ability.

So, what is one to do while sitting up on the pulpit waiting for the big fish you may ask. Well, we decided that the best use of our time was to whistle different songs from the "Fiddler on the Roof" soundtrack. And I must add that we did not take the easy way out and both whistle the melody. We did this in HARMONY.

I think David Letterman has a "Stupid Human Tricks" night coming up soon on his show. Maybe I can convince Cindy to take this act on the road. We could make tens of dollars.

*****

In other news, Mamma Mia and Dark Knight are out. I may actually go see a movie. I am very excited. So, if you have seen either one and didn't like them, please do not tell me.

Also, the X-Files movie comes out next weekend (I am a secret X-Files fan), so I may actually make 3 trips to the movie theater.

Would it be odd to just go and watch all three on the same day, one right after the other? Just checking.

DVD Preview

So, here is a preview of the VBS DVD. This is a snippet from Night 2 which contains my favorite song (Master of This Heart). Also, you get to see Jonah "bobbing". Enjoy! I have a friend guiding me through some of the technical difficulties on the video. So, hopefully, it will be ready in full soon.

**Sorry for the video quality. I didn't want to overload the system with a super high quality download for Blogger.

Singlehanded Destruction

Yes, singlehanded destruction is the only way to describe it. What may you ask am I referring to? Well, I am talking about singlehandedly messing up the church server with the VBS DVD.

Yes, I am telling the truth, and to top things off, it wiped out the almost completed VBS DVD. Fear not, I have the original nightly recordings that I can piece back together with the use of my new 1 TB (terabyte) external hard drive.

Now, if only I could get my computer to actually start up.

I wonder if it would be possible to create and edit the DVD using y Blackberry?

Night 3

(Roxanne, sorry this post is a little tardy. I had to take a quick nap when I got home this evening before I could do anything.)

If you saw Roxanne's comment to my last post, she gave an excellent description of Night 3. Jennie stole the show. She was a dolphin inside the belly of the fish, and she did indeed inquire as to whether or not Jonah would prefer a cup of tea. It was hysterical.

Additionally, Jonah did make his big entrance sliding down the tongue, but what most people don't know is that in practice tonight, Jonah leapt so heartily onto the tongue that it broke. So, my excellent set lady did some quick thinking made it all better.

Other highlights of the night, were...

1. a Jamacian fish.
2. a fish who sounded a lot like Nell Carter in Gimme a Break.
3. And a disco light in the belly of the fish (I could almost hear ABBA playing in the background).

Night 4 should be just as awesome. Both the parrot and the big fish make another appearance tomorrow.

Night 2

Well, Night 2 went just as wonderfully as Night 1. My ladies who run the show both the education part and the play part did an absolutely fantastic job. The fish made its first appearance, and the kids went wild. There was a 6-foot English parrot perched in the baptistry. The pirates used rock-paper-scissors to cast lots, and Jonah gave everyone goosebumps with how moving the final song was.

All in all, a very good night.

Night 1

Well, one night down, three more to go. Everyone did a fantasic job! My ladies who were running everything outside of the auditorium did a fantastic job of making sure everyone got where they needed to be and that the teachers had all they needed. And the cast on stage and crew behind the scenes were superb.

Thanks for a job well done!

Tomorrow night marks the first appearance of the fish.

One of Those Days

So, it was one of those days today. I really wish I had thought to take a picture of my face at about 10:30am this morning when Murphy's Law was in full effect. Oh well is all I can say at this point. Fortunately, my parents have been here this week just working, and so I was able to move from greatly distressed to moderately calm.

In other news, I am now spread across 4 office areas. My furniture is gone. My ceiling was pulled out, and my new furniture is taking up valuable classroom space. I am not terribly certain where anything is. However, they are putting the new carpet in my office tomorrow, and ever so soon, I will have a lovely work space.

As an aside, one of my going away gifts from Saturn Road was a tiny wooden pew with a family of 4. We had one in the teacher workroom that I loved playing with each Sunday. So, the lovely Saturn Road people gave me one for my new office. So, my niece found it today in one of the piles and started playing with it. From what I could tell Mr. & Mrs. Church Pew are quite liberal. Their plastic, non-moldable hands fall in an outstretched open position, and my niece worked to help them raise holy hands.

I hope everyone has a wonderful 4th of July holiday and a Happy Bastille Day!
